A GREAT FURNITURE WEB DIRECTORY
There are not many places on the web that offer a one stop source of everything and anything to do with the world of furniture, so when you do find something that try's to do this, than it is worth sharing.
The site www.furniture-webs.com is an online resource for furniture, and offers a wide array of furniture categories organized by furniture brand, furniture shopping, office furniture etc. Although the site has not been updated since May 2006, it seems to have a lot of relevant and quality links.
Look for "Asian Furniture" or "Wood Furniture" and you get a good quality list of relevant websites.
A word of caution however. I find the category listings a little confusing, and the regional links seem to list sites via keyword rather than company, and most of the "View Details" buttons give an error.
But overall, a great source for furniture sites.
Future issues here will deal with the latest furniture news, and focus on topics such as furniture materials, indoor furniture, outdoor furniture, rustic furniture, carved furniture etc and showcase and highlight furniture resources.

FINDING A GOOD FURNITURE DESIGNER
Ok, you know what you want in your furniture range, but you can't find exactly what you want. So what do you do? You talk to the manufacturer, explain carefully what you want, do a few drawings, and leave it to them. Good choice, right?
Wrong, poor choice. Why? The proof is in the finished product.
Good product designs require folks with a different skill set to those who make the products. Your manufacturer is more concerned with production and finishing, and less on the aesthetics and style. He is not that concerned while making your expensive new dining table, if the legs are too thick or too high. Up to you!
A good designer saves you time and effort. They work with you to understand what it is that you want and need, and keep working at it to determine and detail the best color, material, pattern, finishing, shape, dimensions, texture, weight, cost and size specifications.
When looking for a good designer, make sure they are able to carry out the following essential design tasks:
- Development of material specifications
- Design and Master Production planning meetings with the vendor
- Development of Production Control Records for master sample
- Development of Bill Of Materials for master samples
- Review of master products PCR and production teams compliance
- Inspection of all raw and finished material components for master samples
- QC inspection of master sample product for furniture product consistency
- QC inspection of master sample product color, shade and structural integrity
- QC inspection of master sample workmanship, pre and post finishing
- Review of finished master sample products
- Review of master sample furniture or accessory product packaging
- Shipping of master sample
- Archiving of PCR and BOM for future furniture or accessory production runs
- Status and production progress reports sent weekly

THE BALINESE PEOPLE
What are the people of Bali like? Where do they come from? What do they grow? What sort of animals do they keep? What are their challenges?
The Balinese people are one of the warmest and friendliest peoples in the world, and in fact, what makes someone "Balinese" has more to do with culture than race.
Indeed, facially it is hard to tell a Balinese apart from any other racial group making up the Indonesian people. At the risk of being simplistic, I can on occasion tell a Balinese from a Javanese - usually the Balinese face is more rounded, and fuller in the jaw, with the cheekbones less pronounced. And typically the bodies of the Balinese are a little fuller. But than you can never really tell - the religious aspect is more telling.
And if facial features are really no great indicator of race, forget trying to do something simple like guess someone's age - thank heavens asking someone's age is a polite courtesy in Bali, as you will be surprised at the answers.

KAYUKU FURNITURE NEWS
NEW CHANGES TO OUR SHOW ROOM
We finally got around to painting the interior of our showroom in Jalan Mertanadi, and we are pleased with the results.
Having spent so much time making sure the factory was built, laid out and finished correctly, we never had much time to put into the showroom.
We have many changes we wish to make to the original shops, but some good color on the walls was the first place to start.
We painted the main showroom in two new colors of orange and grey. Not only are these the colors of our logo, but they are colors that assist to highlight the modern style and feel of our furniture.
The back wall of the main showroom was painted orange to give brightness and depth to the room, while the rest of the walls were painted grey, and pick up well the natural color of the teak.
The other show room was painted an olive green, and was chosen to contrast with the other room, and highlight the beautiful and natural color and tones of natural teak.
